The Chairman's Report - August 27th, 2010

Branstad promises to be the state’s top salesman, personally visiting companies to sell Iowa’s opportunities. That’s a sharp contrast to Culver, who just piles on more government programs. Culver’s $1.7 billion I-JOBS program hasn’t created any long-term jobs. I guarantee you Gov. Branstad won’t be satisfied to sit back and get no results.

Branstad details plan to ignite Iowa's economy, create jobs

Growing jobs and improving Iowa's economy starts with the attitude in the governor's office. Current Governor Chet Culver's flawed agenda has featured job killing regulatory changes as well as record spending and debt. Former Gov. Terry Branstad will put a stop to those failed policies. He's traveling the state, sharing with Iowans his plans for making Iowa the best state in which to expand business opportunities and create good-paying jobs.

Branstad promises to be the state's top salesman, personally visiting companies to sell Iowa's opportunities. That's a sharp contrast to Culver, who just piles on more government programs. Culver's $1.7 billion I-JOBS program hasn't created any long-term jobs. I guarantee you Gov. Branstad won't be satisfied to sit back and get no results.

For starters, he'll get rid of the scandal-ridden Department of Economic Development and replace it with a public/private partnership, called the Iowa Partnership for Economic Progress (IPEP). He will utilize this new public-private partnership to forge teams to visit with employers across Iowa and to sell our state to prospective companies across the country and the world. These teams can aggressively market Iowa, tapping in to former Iowans now working in industries around the world.

Economic development experts partnering with Iowa employers will sell the benefits of doing business in Iowa, igniting interest and creating new job opportunities here. Gov. Branstad says, "Economic development, at its core, is about identifying and creating opportunities and to do that we must aggressively sell our state."

An aggressive leader is exactly what Iowans need right now.

Get to know Iowa GOP candidate Bill Northey, Iowa's Secretary of Agriculture!

Each week until Election Day (only 10 to go) we're featuring one of our principled GOP candidates. This week I hope you'll get to know Iowa's Secretary of Agriculture Bill Northey.

Bill Northey, Iowa Ag Secretary

Bill is a fourth-generation Iowa farmer, and he is a perfect example of the kind of leaders we need in Des Moines. I know he would really appreciate your vote and your support leading up to the election. Learn more about Bill Northey on our website.

Good news for Sen. Grassley (Republican), bad news for Congressman Boswell (Democrat)

This week Sen. Chuck Grassley's campaign received some good news, while Congressman Leonard Boswell's did not. It's all good news for Iowa Republicans.

First, CQ Politics moved Sen. Grassley's race to "Safe Republican," meaning he's one of the least endangered candidates in the country.

Second, a poll for the American Action Forum found 3rd Congressional District GOP nominee Brad Zaun leading incumbent Democrat Boswell, 51% to 41%.

Also this week, former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich endorsed GOP State Treasurer nominee Dave Jamison, and former presidential candidate Steve Forbes endorsed Dr. Mariannette Miller-Meeks, who's running against incumbent Democrat Dave Loebsack in the 2nd Congerssional District.

While it's always great to be ahead in the polls and get some national support, our candidates will continue to campaign for every Iowan's vote. I hope you'll continue working hard on their behalf, too!

The Iowa Team: Volunteers and candidates work side by side in Victory effort!

The Iowa Team is growing! Volunteers and candidates are working side-by-side in Iowa GOP Victory Centers across the state. Monday, 2nd Congressional District nominee Dr. Mariannette Miller-Meeks grabbed a phone alongside volunteers in Ottumwa. The work they're doing on the phones is some of the easiest but most critical campaign work - making personal connections with voters. Through a simple phone call, our volunteers are opening a dialogue with not just Republicans but also Independent voters.

While we've cut the gap in half, Democrats outnumber Republicans in Iowa, and we won't win the election without the support of Independents. There are a lot of Iowans who realize they agree with our solutions once they get to know more about our Party and our candidates. That's exactly what the phone calls are all about.

If you're not already a part of this critical Victory effort, please get involved right away. Don't be intimidated at the thought of calling up strangers or not knowing what to say. The people you're calling are friendly. Our Victory Center staff and other volunteers will show you the ropes. You'll be surprised how a couple of hours will go by!

To get started, contact the Victory Center nearest you!
